Membrane producer, filtration consultant
About Us
Ecofilter Tek is a start-up founded by two researchers Dr. Farhad Farnia and Dr. Yue Zhao at Université de Sherbrooke (UDS) in 2021. These two researchers are expert in design, manufacturing and developing smart polymers. The technology that they developed lead them to fabricate new membranes invented in 2018. The technology was filed as an IP by UDS and TransferTech Sherbrooke. Ecofilter Tek signed the license of exclusive rights of this technology with TransferTech Sherbrooke in 2021. Then they built a team of researchers to bring up the technology at the Department of Chemistry of UDS.
Meet The Team
Farhad Farnia
- CEO
He finished his Ph.D. at Université de Sherbrooke in polymer and material chemistry. His expertise is design, development and application of polymers. He authored several papers and patents related to the development of polymers in membrane and other applications. Under his leadership, Ecofilter Tek developed this new technology and doing industrialization of integration of smart polymers in advanced membranes. He also obtained award « Programme de Bourses d’Excellence de la Faculté des Sciences (BEST), Université de Sherbrooke, Canada. 2016-2019 ».
Yue Zhao
- CTO
Yue Zhao received his Ph.D. in 1987 from École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de Paris (ESPCI). He has been a Full Professor since 2000. Zhao’s main research interest is the design, synthesis, study and exploitation for applications of advanced polymer and liquid crystalline materials useful for health, environment and energy. He has published more than 240 papers in primary journals and delivered more than 220 invited lectures worldwide. To date, he has trained (or has been training) 54 Ph.D. and M.Sc. students as well as 26 postdoctoral fellows. He was awarded the Macromolecular Science and Engineering Award of the Chemical Institute of Canada (CIC) in 2013 and elected Fellow of CIC in 2014. Under his scientific management, Ecofilter Tek develops new generation in smart membranes for different applications.
